My story

Born in Seoul and raised in Pittsburgh, surrounded by the biggest family and so much love, my life has always been about imagination and discovery, passion and drive, and seeing what’s possible.

From playing for hours in my room when I was a kid with a basket of toys to writing for hours a day as an adult on my computer with the characters and worlds I created, stories have played an integral part in my life. In 2010, I made it official. I got my first job in publishing at epicurean magazine Lux and haven’t looked back.

For more than a decade now, I’ve been working as a writer, editor, interviewer and reviewer. I’ve interviewed such people as NBC Last Comic Standing semi-finalist and 2013 Academy Awards writer Jesse Joyce, Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame Award winner Sarah Chang, Sex and the City actor Bryan Callen, internationally-renowned psychic medium John Edward, Criss Angel’s  Phenomenon television show winner magician Mike Super, Emmy winner Hank Phillippi Ryan, two-time silver medalist figure skater Marie-France Dubreuil, CEO of the Romantic Times Kathryn Falk, and many more. I’ve had the pleasure to also interview authors, literary agents, and editors such as Jodi Reamer, Peter Knapp, Kristin Nelson, Dan Lazar, Julia Quinn, Ally Carter, Sherry Thomas, Tiffany Reisz, Jeaniene Frost, Jason Pinter, Teresa Medeiros, and more.

And then my life as an editor and teacher began.

My first teaching job was college-level creative writing. To say I enjoyed it would be an understatement. I loved it. I met one of my absolute best friends teaching! So…I began to teach all around the city, hosting popular workshops which would sometimes include amazing guest speakers. I had one goal: make writers wiser, more confident, and more joyful about their stories and creative process.

Teaching is so fun, and it wasn’t long before I began working with writers one-on-one. There is truly nothing quite like helping someone figure out a plot hole, have a eureka! moment with a character, and finally write The End and feel great about it. From the beginning writer to the established bestseller, from indie darlings to New York Times favorites, I’ve worked with a wide range of creative powerhouses and it’s truly an honor each and every time. I learn just as much from them as I hope they learn from me! Their drive and determination, their grit and perserverence. I remain in awe of who they are.

Stories

And as for my own stories! Well, I always say two stories made me the person I am today: Jude Devereaux’s Temptation made me a reader, and Harlan Coben’s Tell No One made me a writer. (Thank you, Grandma, for giving me that box of books.) These stories were magic and alchemy and my brain just could not comprehend how words on a page could make me feel so much. And I just knew…I knew it my bones…I had to do that too. If I could create that sort of magic? Count me in!

So I guess you could say my stories are a great mix of romance and tension. Gotta feel the love even if you’re about to face down an army, right? Or maybe you face the army cause you’re feeling the love!

A Personal Note From Me To You

Well, here we are. Just you and me. Thanks for reading this far! Seriously. Life is busy and you’ve got miles to go before you sleep. Probably? Maybe? Unless you’re like me who does all my internet browsing right before bed. 🙂 So I guess you have only a few minutes to go before you sleep.

Either way, if you’re on this page, you’re probably a reader or a writer. If you’re the former, good golly Ms. Molly, do I love you. Writing is soul food for me and you let me serve it to you hot. I lose time when I write. I get weightless when I write. Okay, not all the time! But in those rare, amazing moments, I feel like that flame in my belly is just roaring. So thank you for reading and sharing and supporting my weird, romantic stories.

And if you’re a writer, I want to say to you…keep going. There’s so many mountains to climb as a writer, so much rejection and doubt and fear. But please.

Keep going.

You are so valuable and necessary.

Your words are so valuable and necessary.

Your story will be someone’s favorite book one day.

But.

You have to keep going. Don’t be a machine, of course! Absolutely take breaks, take care of yourself, take a year or two off. Reassess what you want and why. Heal, recover, refill. But please don’t ever let fear be a driving factor in whether you continue to dream and write. Be gentle with your wild and beautiful heart.

My philosophy is simple: I truly believe stories are what makes the world go ’round. It’s our connection and humanity. It’s why I write. And my commitment to always play in that beautiful sandbox of creativity, love, passion and connection has never been stronger. And I’m so excited to play in that sandbox with you.

xoxoBethany
