Interview – John Edward

It’s been a while since I posted, but I’m so glad to be back. And not only back, but with an amazing interview with the extraordinary John Edward, world-renowned psychic medium. On his internationally syndicated talk shows, Crossing Over with John Edward and John Edward Cross Country, he uses his unique abilities to connect people with loved ones who have passed on. Deeply compelling, often startling and occasionally humorous, John’s down-to-earth approach has earned him a vast and loyal following.

Today, John is one of the country’s foremost psychic mediums and author of the critically acclaimed New York Times best sellers One Last Time; What if God Were the Sun; Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories, After Life: Answers from the Other Side, Final Beginnings, Practical Praying: Using the Rosary to Enhance Your Life andInfinite Quest. His newest publication, Fallen Masters, a fiction novel, was released in September of 2012.

In October of 2011, John launched THE FIVE as an additional platform to connect with his audience on a deeper level. Members of THE FIVE have access to exclusive monthly web events, as well as to John’s latest electronic novel, Above and Beyond, as it is written in chapter installments. Other benefits include receiving a membership welcome pack, the opportunity to meet John at one of his live events and the chance to win tickets, private readings and more. In October 2013 The Five was renamed Evolve…a command so each person can continue on their personal journey!*

John is coming back to Pittsburgh for one day only and I’ll have a full review of that show on Monday. Tickets are available here. In the meantime, as readers of the site will recall, I interviewed John about a year ago. And I was so excited when he agreed to another chat. So without further ado….enjoy the interview!

Hi John! Thank you so much for appearing on the site today! It’s been over a year since our last conversation and since then, you have been very busy! Your Twitter feed is a great way for your fans to connect with you and stay in the loop. You have over 83,000 followers and your really awesome about tweeting back and being really positive. Even William Shatner tweets you! How are you enjoying Twitter and social media?

I am still adapting to the energy of it. It doesn’t feel normal to me to be able to interact with people when they are seeking me out for what I represent. I have always maintained a wall between me and them and social media knocks it down.  I do really like and appreciate Twitter the best. I tried Instagram – but have asked my co-host on EVOLVE to handle for me. She’s great at it.

I love how positive your social media is! It’s always so nice to read your feeds because they’re motivating, inspiring and funny. I think it’s awesome that we seem to share a love of the TV show The Flash! It’s great, isn’t it? Have any theories on Reverse Flash and how that will all play out?

Ok… now we are talking. I really like the show  THE FLASH.  It has such humanity and heart attached to it. I tell everyone to watch it.

Any other favorite TV shows or movies coming out your excited to see?

Looking forward to the AVENGERS – and I do like the Walking Dead *insert joke here 🙂

So speaking of connecting with your fans, I just watched your latest episode of Evolve! It’s one of my favorite webcasts. Love it! You make the show so fun and effortless, but I’m sure a ton of hard work goes on behind the scenes. Can you pull back the curtain a bit and talk about how you decide on your guests, topics, etc?

The guest has to have an Evolve moment they can share or their work, project has to have the take home message of that as well. Very proud of what the show is doing, and the community it is creating. Bringing together an international energetic family.

What do you see next for Evolve? How do you hope the series progresses with each year? Right now, you have an awesome sale going on to get into the VIP club. I urge everyone to join!

Thank you. I think it needs to grow organically. I have always had a philosophy that those who are supposed to find me, a book, a TV appearance/show, or now Evolve will find it when it’s the right time for them… not me. It would be great one day to have a conventional TV show that folks can watch and EVOLVE be the community where they interact.

Going from your webcast shows to your live shows: I’ve been to a show of yours and it was a highlight of my year. I don’t think I stopped getting chills. Your accuracy was mind-blowing. I did notice that some of the audience members who stood seemed very hesitant to answer your questions, or even seemed unsure if they were really the ones who should be standing! Do you ever feel, in the middle of a reading, that perhaps the person standing isn’t the one that should be? What do you do in that scenario?

I don’t. I think that much of that is them not hearing WHAT they want or from WHOM they want – and that’s the dance of getting them to validate it. I also get a pull in a room to the people that I am supposed to be reading – that eliminates me standing in front of a crowd and saying “Who knows Joe?” lol – I would have a problem with that personally and professionally watching someone do that. The information reveals that it is supposed to be for that person with the details that come thru. What’s funny is that many times people don’t care about the details – they just want the, “they’re ok!” and “they love you” or the New Age-y BS as I call it….

You mention energy a lot, on social media, during live shows, in previous interviews. Have you ever encountered someone who came to a live reading, stood, but then had energy you couldn’t really…be compatible with, for lack of a better phrase? Or is it more about the energy you’re receiving from the person (or animal) on the other side?

TOTALLY have had the experience of incompatibility with the living.  The energies on the Other Side are easier to deal with. I don’t always like the clients’ energy or attitudes while I am reading for them.

One of the things I found so so interesting was at the live show, you did a really good “prologue” to getting things started, wherein you said that, and I’m paraphrasing, the spirit and energies you feel are not like the ghosts or poltergeists you see in movies. Can you elaborate on that? Many people believe in a ying/yang philosophy, where for every up there is a down, and every light there is a dark. But that doesn’t seem to be your philosophy.

I think energy is just that… energy. We are as a consciousness vibrating at a certain frequency inside this thing we called a physical body – our vehicle…. The car… and the soul is the driver.  We have positive energy and negative energy on both sides of the veil.  I think Hollywood has done a bang up job bastardizing the subject matter, dumbing it down, making reality shows about it, and taking the essence of empowerment out of it…

One of my favorite quotes from you is this: “we need to communicate, appreciate and validate the people in our lives TODAY and not wait, because sometimes, many times, we don’t get a second chance at that first opportunity.” It’s perfect advice. How do you make sure you appreciate and validate the people in your life? How can everyone do better at appreciating and validating the people in our lives?

It’s simple. Tell people how you feel.

Okay, and just for a bit of fun, I thought I’d include a mini-version of my Pop Quiz, a quick Q&A that focuses on pop culture. Here we go:

Which would you rather drink for the rest of your natural born life, pop or water?

ZEVIA – natural pop

Marvel or DC?

In theory, DC – but hate the latest movies. MARVEL does it better with color and personality. DC is grey and dark…not what a superhero stands for in my opinion.

Would you rather be able to fly, time-travel or become invisible?

If you could have any super hero save you, who would it be and why?

Wonder Woman – & the why should be obvious 🙂

If you could bring any fictional person to life and ask him or her a question, who would it be and what would you ask?

The Doctor from Doctor Who – what is your philosophy on empowering humanity?

Who do you admire most in your professional life?

This is a tough one. Because my answer is going to sound TOTALLY egotistical and its not meant to be. But it would be my reflection if I am answering this honestly.  I work really hard in all aspects of my professional life – so on the WHOLE- from ethics, integrity, professionalism, time spent, teaching, travel, tv, publishing, etc…. that would be ME.  If you mean someone who does what I do… GEORGE ANDERSON.

Who do you admire most in your personal life?

My wife, Sandra. She puts up with way too much from all the aspects of my life and never complains.

To be successful in your field, what traits do you think a person needs to have?

Integrity and putting the work first.

What motivates you most?

The responsibility of teaching people that life and love are eternal

What will you be doing next?

Peeing… as this was a long questionnaire 🙂
